DESCRIPTION:safeTALK (FREE) – Suicide Prevention Training Workshop\nFriday March 7\, 2025\n9:00am-1:00pm\nCMHA Victoria Offices\n\nsafeTALK is a half-day suicide prevention workshop open to anyone\, regardless of prior experience or training. Gain knowledge about how to help a person who is thinking about suicide connect to the support they need. \nYou will learn to: \n• Identify people who may have thoughts of suicide\n• Ask them directly about the possibility of suicide\n• Connect them to life-saving community supports and resources \nMore than 50\,000 people in 20 countries attend safeTALK each year. \nIn honor of World Suicide Prevention Day\, CMHA BC is hosting this safeTALK training at no cost to the community. \nRegistration: In order to register\, please fill out the form below and ensure that you select the correct workshop dates in the drop down menu titled “Please Select an Upcoming Workshop”.  \n$10 Deposit: After submitting the registration form\, you should be automatically re-directed to our online payment system. Please note that\, due to levels of demand\, a $10 deposit is required to hold your spot in this training. All deposits will be refunded after attending the workshop. DESCRIPTION:Have you ever found yourself looking at your child’s emotional outburst and thinking\, “What the heck is happening?” or “This doesn’t make any sense\,” or “What on earth are they so upset about – it’s not that big a deal?”  If so\, you are certainly not alone!  Many parents describe feeling as though they’re walking on eggshells or avoiding taking their children out in fear of an emotional ‘meltdown’ which can be embarrassing\, upsetting\, and can lead to some pretty big emotions for the grown ups as well. \nIf this sounds like you\, or like someone you care about\, please join us for an evening filled with information about what can lead to big emotions and for some concrete strategies for responding skillfully to those situations.  Nicole will join us live on Zoom to lead us through an evening of learning which will expand upon some key points including: \n\nUnderstanding emotion dysregulation as a skills deficit\, and identifying strategies to grow those skills.\nHow to anticipate when big emotions will occur\, and exploring specific skills for responding to it.\nUnderstanding how the principle of attunement can be a roadmap for finding solutions that will work for you and your family.\nHoping for the best\, planning for the worst – so that everyone knows what to expect.\nHow to repair the relationship when it’s all gone wrong.\n\nPlease join us live online for an evening filled with information\, reflection\, and no doubt a good amount of laughter as well. \nSpeaker: Nicole Allen is a Registered Clinical Counsellor\, mom\, wife and dog lover who\, over the past decade\, has worked with young people and their caregivers to build relationships and emotion regulation strategies\, especially in times of mental health crisis.
