The 2025 Summer Reading Club (SRC) runs from Friday\, June 20 to Saturday\, September 6\, and is open to children aged 14 and under. \n \nPick up your SRC reading record starting Friday\, June 20 at any GVPL branch. \n\nHow It Works\n \n• Visit any GVPL branch to pick up your free SRC package\, which includes your reading record and everything you need to get started. \n• Read—or be read to—for 20 minutes or more each day. You can read in any format\, in any language\, and in any location.\n \n• Track your progress on your reading record. DESCRIPTION:Teen Community Connection Summer Camps 2025\n \nThis program is run by Community Living Victoria and is subsidized through funding from the Supported Child Development Program. All activities are community-based and promote access\, recreation\, leisure\, and FUN! Throughout the week\, teens are in locations that may include local beaches and parks\, recreation centres\, local attractions\, community events\, and more. DESCRIPTION:PISE is happy to provide a variety of options for participants who require inclusion support. If your child requires inclusion support please read the instructions below on how to register and review our frequently asked questions. If you still have questions regarding our Inclusion Support Service email inclusion@pise.ca. \nRegistration for inclusion opens March 12 at 7:00am online and 7:30am in person/phone \nRegistering your Child for Inclusion Support: \nAt PISE we do our best to provide inclusion support to as many participants as possible\, while still providing the opportunity for participants to have the best camp experience possible! Participants are eligible for up to TWO weeks of Inclusion Support services each summer\, on a first come\, first serve basis. Our staff are unable to provide personal care such as toileting or feeding. \nSTEP 1: Review our camp offerings\, and decide on your desired dates for your child to attend a PISE camp. \nSTEP 2: Register your child in an Inclusion Support camp week. Please note you do not have to register your child in the actual camp\, registration in an Inclusion Support camp will secure your childs spot in your desired camp. Our Inclusion Coordinator will reach out to you directly confirming your Inclusion Support\, and will assist you with registration and payment in your desired camp. \nIf your desired week is full\, add yourself to the waitlist or see if a different week is still available. \nSTEP 3: Once you have received confirmation\, you will be requested to complete and submit our Intake Form. DESCRIPTION:Summer Journeys Day Camp\nSOCLA has operated this fun-filled summer day camp for many years now and every year it just gets better! Activities are carried out in an age appropriate manner and are flexible to allow for the different abilities of the participants in a way that ensures success. Our activities will take place in and around Sooke\, with occasional outings to places in Victoria. The participants’ daily activities can include exploring local beaches and parks\, working at arts and crafts and much more. Every participant will need sun hats\, sunscreen\, bathing suits\, towels\, as well as snacks and lunches every day. SUMMARY:Accessibility Projects Grants Applications Now Open!
DESCRIPTION:As part of the Province’s goal to improve accessibility for people with disabilities in BC\, Disability Alliance BC (DABC) was selected by the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction (SDPR) to distribute funding to community based “Accessibility Projects” beginning in 2018. Since then\, over 95 projects have been funded. \nThis year the grants have reopened again with a total of $450\,000 available. BC-based not-for-profit organizations may apply for up to $40\,000 for year-long community engagement projects that will support lasting change for people in BC living with disability. Projects will focus on one of the following objectives: \n\nAccessible employment;\nAccessible emergency planning and response;\nAccessible arts\, culture and tourism;\nAccessible sports and recreation;\nAccessible education and learning;\nAccessible community participation.\n\nThe deadline to submit applications is September 12th\, 2025\, at 12pm Pacific Time. Successful applicants will receive funding in December 2025 in order to implement their project in January 2026. \nEligibility criteria includes: \n\nProjects must be focused on community engagement rather than large capital costs such as accessibility improvements to buildings and outdoor spaces.\nEligible organizations must be not-for-profit organizations with a volunteer Board chosen by its membership\, based in BC or with a base of operations in and sufficient capacity to deliver services in BC. They must operate primarily for community benefit and have services open to the public rather than restricted to their membership.\nIf an organization has received a grant in the past\, they can reapply 5 years after their application was submitted (for example\, if an organization applied in 2020 for a grant and did their project in 2021\, they can reapply in 2025 to do a project in 2026).\nConflicts of interest with DABC must be declared on the application form to be considered on a case-by-case basis. SUMMARY:Mental Health First Aid Course
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an engaging and impactful virtual Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Certification Course\, designed to equip you with essential skills to assist individuals experiencing a mental health crisis or decline in well-being. This interactive training will take place virtually\, from 8:30AM to 12:00PM\, on September 4th & 5th\, providing you with hands-on techniques to recognize\, support\, and guide individuals toward recovery. \nThroughout the course\, participants will learn how to: \n\nRecognize early signs of mental health declines or crises\nEncourage open discussions about mental health and well-being\nGuide individuals to appropriate professional or community supports\nOffer support in mental health or substance use crises\nUse MHFA actions to maintain your own mental health\n\nUpon successful completion\, participants will receive a Mental Health First Aid certificate from the Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC). \nBefore attending the virtual training\, participants must complete a self-directed online module (Module 1)\, which introduces key concepts and strategies to be explored in the live training (Modules 2 and 3). The online module takes approximately 2 hours to complete\, and proof of completion is required prior to the start of the virtual modules. Completion of Module 1 is mandatory to participate in the virtual course. Failure to complete the online module by the specified deadline will make the participant ineligible for a refund or transfer of registration. \nImportant Note: A minimum of 8 participants is required by the Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) for the training to proceed. If fewer than 8 participants are confirmed 48 hours prior to the session\, the course will be rescheduled in accordance with MHCC’s group size policy. \nCancellation Policy: \n\nCancellations must be submitted via email (training@csshsa.ca) at least 5 business days before the scheduled course to receive a refund or reschedule.\n\nLate cancellations or no-shows are not eligible for refunds or rescheduling.
