DESCRIPTION:In honor of Recovery Month (September)\, Umbrella Society\, @New Roads Therapeutic Recovery Community (Our Place Society)\, and our funders (Victoria Community Action Team\, Island Health\, BC Government) will partner to deliver a new\, re-energized\, and refreshed celebration of recovery for individuals\, families\, friends\, and communities affected by substance use disorders and other addictions.\n\nRDV’24 is a free\, family friendly\, and inclusive\, alcohol/substance free\, single day annual event for anyone to attend who has an interest in celebrating recovery\, honoring those who have recovered\, and giving hope to those seeking sustainable recovery from active addiction.\n\nEvent elements will include (but may not be limited to) music\, comedy\, and other entertainment on the main stage; food trucks\, artisans marketspace\, a resource providers marketspace\, 4-on-4 street hockey tournament\, a kids stage and “Family Fun Land” inflatable fun park for kids\, parents\, and adults. DESCRIPTION:JOIN ‘POWER TO BE’ FOR A FREE PROGRAM TO TRY NEW ACTIVITIES!\nUpcoming Victoria Dates:\nTIME: 10am – 3pm \nSUNDAY\, AUGUST 11th \nSUNDAY\, SEPTEMBER 22nd \nSATURDAY\, NOVEMBER 2nd \n\n  \nWHAT: Come experience the outdoors with Power To Be! We offer a variety of activities including hiking with and without TrailRiders (one-wheeled\, all-terrain wheelchairs)\, paddlesports\, nature adventures\, and more. We also periodically have community partners on site who offer additional activities! \n  \nWHO: Anyone who wants to access nature in a safe\, fun\, and inclusive way. This open event invites all current Power To Be participants and their families\, as well as anyone interested in learning more about Power To Be \n  \nWHERE: Our beautiful Prospect Lake site located at 4633 Prospect Lake Rd. \n  \nDETAILS: No RSVPs are required to attend. We ask that anyone under the age of 19 be accompanied by adult support. Activities are available for sign up upon your arrival and run on a rotating basis. We will run the activities rain or shine\, so dress appropriately for the weather. Please bring snacks and water! \n  \nPLEASE NOTE: \nThis free event is open to families. We ask that all children and youth be accompanied by an adult support as our Power To Be staff will be busy ensuring everyone is enjoying the different activities. Hosted by Disability Without Poverty BC\, BC Disability\, Curiko\, and BC People First Society. \nAndy Fiore’s Invisible No More is a documentary about brain injury and criminal justice. The screening will be followed by a panel of experts discussing broader issues such as mental health\, homelessness and addiction that ripple from the film onto our city streets. This event presents a unique opportunity to strengthen community\, foster understanding and celebrate Disability With Possibility. We actively sought the opinions of the hardest-to-reach communities including: 2SLGBTQ+\, racialized\,  Indigenous\, refugees\, homeless\, incarcerated or formerly incarcerated\, veterans\, institutionalized\, and Northern communities. Many of these stories are difficult to hear. But our job is not only to listen\, but to help them be heard. \nThe film we are screening contains conversations related to childhood trauma\, sexual abuse\, violence\, gangs\, incarceration\, drug addiction\, bullying and suicidal ideation. \nNotice of filming and photography: \nWhen you attend this event\, you enter an area where photography\, audio\, and video recording may occur. By entering the event premises\, you consent to such recording media and its release\, publication\, exhibition or reproduction. \nDisability Without Poverty BC will be recording during the event.
