SUMMARY:Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)
DESCRIPTION:We are now registering for our upcoming ASIST workshop taking place on December 3/4\, 2024.\n\n\nASIST is a two day workshop that provides suicide first aid training to participants. This training provides participants the competencies needed to prevent suicide by recognizing signs\, providing a skilled intervention\, and developing a safety plan to keep someone alive. \nYou do not need to work in the health or mental health field to take ASIST. We need people in all roles in the community to be ASIST trained to create a suicide-safer community!\n \n \nThe cost of the workshop is $325. Student rate is available upon request.\n\nThe workshop will take place at the NEED2 office.\nLunch\, coffee/tea and snacks will be provided\nTo register or for more information email communityeducation@need2.c

DESCRIPTION:Trigger Warning: This workshop will discuss sexual assault\, systemic racism\, systemic failures in the area of sexual assault response and gender-based violence. \nJoin us for an engaging workshop that explores the current landscape of sexual assault response in British Columbia. This session will provide an overview of the existing support systems\, challenges\, and opportunities within the province. Attendees will have the chance to share their perspectives\, discuss desired changes\, and collaboratively brainstorm ideas to enhance sexual assault response over the next five years. Together\, let’s envision a more supportive and effective approach for survivors and communities across BC.\nPlease note that participants will not be asked to share their individual experiences with gender-based violence. \nChloe Hunt\nChloe Hunt is a social impact entrepreneur and former tech product manager with a deep commitment to advancing gender-based violence initiatives. Drawing from years of experience in the sector\, Chloe is actively involved in government-funded research focused on overcoming barriers to accessing care in northern Canada. Her passion for social change drives her ongoing efforts to improve access to care across the country.

DESCRIPTION:DBT for Adolescents & Caregivers\nWe will be offering a Multi-Family DBT Skills Training Group starting in January 2025 located in Victoria\, BC. Intakes open on November 1\, 2024\, and the screening form will be available on that day below. \nWhat: 26-week Multi-Family DBT Skills Training Group \nWhen: January -July 2025 \nWhere: In-person in Victoria\, BC (location TBD) \nWho: Adolescents aged 13-17 who are residents of the CRD and struggle with BPD symptoms or emotion dysregulation\, with the strongly recommended option for two caregivers to attend. \nCost: Free \nIntake Date: November 1\, 2024. The screening form for clients is now open until November 15\, 2024\, or until full. \nScreening is now open: https://bit.ly/DBTforYouth \nIntake Process: Please read carefully. \n\n\nComplete Screening Form\n\n\nThe screening form will be available on our website when intakes open on November 1\, 2024\, and will close two weeks later. \n\n\nThe form will assess eligibility based on the following criteria: \na) The adolescent and caregiver must be residents of the CRD for the entire duration of the program. \nb) The adolescent is experiencing clinically significant symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) or severe emotion dysregulation\, although no formal diagnosis is required. \nc) The adolescent must be under the care of a registered therapist for the entire duration of the program. \nOne-Hour Zoom or Phone Assessment \n\n\nIf eligible\, you will receive an informed consent form via email for completion. \n\n\nYou will then be scheduled for a one-hour Zoom or phone appointment to review the consent form and an assessment to ensure the program aligns with your goals. \n\n\nDue to limited space\, not all applicants will be accepted into the group. You will be notified of your status within one month of completing the screening form. \n\n\nPlease note: We do not maintain a waitlist for the DBT Skills Training Groups.

DESCRIPTION:In honor of Recovery Month (September)\, Umbrella Society\, @New Roads Therapeutic Recovery Community (Our Place Society)\, and our funders (Victoria Community Action Team\, Island Health\, BC Government) will partner to deliver a new\, re-energized\, and refreshed celebration of recovery for individuals\, families\, friends\, and communities affected by substance use disorders and other addictions.\n\nRDV’24 is a free\, family friendly\, and inclusive\, alcohol/substance free\, single day annual event for anyone to attend who has an interest in celebrating recovery\, honoring those who have recovered\, and giving hope to those seeking sustainable recovery from active addiction.\n\nEvent elements will include (but may not be limited to) music\, comedy\, and other entertainment on the main stage; food trucks\, artisans marketspace\, a resource providers marketspace\, 4-on-4 street hockey tournament\, a kids stage and “Family Fun Land” inflatable fun park for kids\, parents\, and adults. We offer a variety of activities including hiking with and without TrailRiders (one-wheeled\, all-terrain wheelchairs)\, paddlesports\, nature adventures\, and more. We also periodically have community partners on site who offer additional activities! \n  \nWHO: Anyone who wants to access nature in a safe\, fun\, and inclusive way. This open event invites all current Power To Be participants and their families\, as well as anyone interested in learning more about Power To Be \n  \nWHERE: Our beautiful Prospect Lake site located at 4633 Prospect Lake Rd. \n  \nDETAILS: No RSVPs are required to attend. We ask that anyone under the age of 19 be accompanied by adult support. Activities are available for sign up upon your arrival and run on a rotating basis.
