SUMMARY:Colour Your Summer with GVPL's 2025 BC Summer Reading Club!
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a summer of reading\, creativity\, and connection. The 2025 Summer Reading Club (SRC) runs from Friday\, June 20 to Saturday\, September 6\, and is open to children aged 14 and under. \n \nPick up your SRC reading record starting Friday\, June 20 at any GVPL branch. \n\nHow It Works\n \n• Visit any GVPL branch to pick up your free SRC package\, which includes your reading record and everything you need to get started. \n• Read—or be read to—for 20 minutes or more each day. You can read in any format\, in any language\, and in any location.\n \n• Track your progress on your reading record. One number equals one day of reading.\n \n• Return to the library each week to collect your sticker and prize.\n \n• Complete seven weeks of reading to earn a medal and celebrate your achievement. \n \n\nPrograms and Activities\n\nOur goal this summer is to encourage kids and families to connect with their local branch and enjoy all the BC Summer Reading Club has to offer. DESCRIPTION:Design your very own nature-themed tote bag during this hands-on\, evening workshop! \nParticipants are invited to learn how to identify the traces different plants and animals leave behind in their natural habitat. You will have the opportunity to decorate your very own tote bag using wax rubbings of natural materials found at the Nature Sanctuary. \nParticipants will join Nature Educators on a guided walk to learn about animal and human activity around the Nature House. SUMMARY:Deaf and Autistic - Affirming Intersections of Experience
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will focus on people who are Deaf and\nAutistic. The presenter will be Elle Livengood. Elle is\nDeaf and Autistic herself and will share her journey to\nunderstanding autism\, being Hard of Hearing and\nbecoming Deaf\, experience through a cochlear implant\,\nand about other parts of the life lived til now. Elle will\ntalk about understanding language\, understanding\nautism\, affirming Deaf Autistic children\, how to\nnavigate the systems that don’t always support\nmarginalized families\, and more! \n  \nBIOGRAPHY \n \nElle is a professional educator of many years and many\nhats. Elle has taught Deaf and hard of hearing students\nacross the country\, in Deaf schools\, mainstream settings\nand now runs a DHH middle school center program in\nPortland\, Oregon. As well\, Elle has hosted a variety of\nworkshops on the Disability experience for adults. They\nare Deaf\, Autistic and chronically ill and have a\nplethora of lived and learned experience in the\nDisability Community. \nThese days you can find Elle loving their little home and\nfamily life filled with love\, animals and nature.
